yes, this book defiantly has major MAJOR Crescent City vibes, where you have a world filled with different supernatural/paranormal beings where the poor humans and half breeds are trying to survive in their day to day life without getting killed. The pace of our mcs relationship is amazing, and seems more realistic. They grow, learn, and change together throughout the whole book. This book has everything: slow burn, found family, morally grey man, witty banter, touch her you die. I really loved loren's innocence mixed with Darien's badass and soft inside out. You are the kindest thing that has ever happened to me. You are…you are my home. And I think it’s safe to say that my life would be a whole lot darker without you in it. You light up my life, Loren Calla.” Cerberus was the famous three-headed dog, pet of Hades, the god of the Underworld. He was standing guard at the Gates of the Underworld, making sure that no dead soul would escape and no living man would enter the realm of the dead. Besides his three terrifying heads, he also had a serpent for a tail. Only two heroes managed to defeat this monster; Heracles (Hercules) and Orpheus. Heracles managed to defeat him with his strength while Orpheus made him fall asleep with his music. Cerberus was a child of Typhon and Echidna. He had a brother from the same parents, a two-headed dog called Orthrus. I absolutely adored Loren. She’s young but not clueless, innocent but not weak, self aware but never whiny, and selfless to her very core most of the time at her own expense. She failed to make the same mistakes that commonly befall younger heroines trying to “find their way” and won my heart over SO fast in the process. She also suffers from an illness that closely resembles diabetes. Seeing that represented in a MC meant the world to me as someone who grew up with a relative diagnosed with diabetes at a young age who never had strong female characters to relate to and admire in that sense. Watching Loren’s growth and self-confidence build her into the strong force you knew she had the potential to be all along was incredible and I can’t wait to see where her newfound strength takes her next…I have a feeling she’s really going to need it.

When more women start disappearing, and some of them slowly turn up dead, Loren and Darien's search for answers takes them deep into Angelthene's corrupt underbelly, where they discover a dark secret that threatens to unravel their world. And when tragedy strikes, Loren learns that love can make an ordinary person do extraordinary things.

In short, the characters were the biggest part of the reason why this was a disaster. And the romance, too, of course.the plot of this was sort of interesting but WAY too drawn out, I found myself skimming and skimming... and skimming. From the author of Dreams of Ice and Iron comes a new fantasy romance perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas, Ilona Andrews, and Cassandra Clare.

Despite my incessant bitching, I actually did... like (like?)... let me revise. I can see that this author is good. They seem to have a lot of ideas, a lot of dedication to intense world building. The romance despite the floundering of that moment with Darian was actually adorable and felt slow enough that it supported the instant attachment they had for each other. This book includes dual POV so it follows Loren and Darien's POVs and it really helped me dive into them and I appreciate that so much because it offered me a better insight into them as characters who have different layers to them. Darien is grumpy, tortured and an imortal devil. He is one of the most fearsome men in the city. He is the ultimate protector and possessive H. It supposed to be cater toward 18 or+ but it really read like a YA which is not a bad thing but It didn't really work with what the author was trying to achieve (describe as a New adult). We meet our main character, Loren, right away. Initially, I wasn’t a fan of her. She wasn’t the strong female lead I’m used to in my books. But I came to adore her anyway, and her development throughout the story is phenomenal.I think that you are what's best for me, Darien Cassel. Where you are is where I belong. And I don't think you could ever convince me otherwise." Anyways, I highly recommend giving this one a try. As a warning, it's an incomplete series, but the author is currently working on book 2. Loren Calla has only ever been ordinary. As a human struggling to survive in a city that caters to the needs of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other supernatural creatures, she always assumed her life would remain simple, predictable, and as safe as her world would allow. On some sleepless nights, the horns of the sinners became halos, and the streets felt like paradise.”
