Ryan joined Newsweek in 2021 from the Daily Mail and had previously worked at Vogue Italia and OK! magazine. Languages: English. Some knowledge of German and Russian. There is good news and bad news. The good news is that, as you may have noticed, the world didn’t end on 4 July 1999. Hence the headline in the Guardian on Monday 5 July 1999: “Nostradamus wrong (please ignore if the world ended yesterday).”

According to the clip, the source of the information was Nostradamus' 1555 book Les Prophéties, or The Prophecies, a collection of poetic quatrains allegedly predicting future events. The greatest diviner and scryer who ever lived, Nostradamus was born in 1503 in Provence, France, and his prophecies have been continuously in print since his death on 2nd July 1566. These words may suggest some kind of revolt against the wealthy who have traditionally been insulated from the economic turmoil affecting the rest of society. Another quatrain presents an equally dire vision of discord and violence:

Antichrist cometh

The king of terror, Nostradamus’s interpreters suggested, was the antichrist. Others argued that, because Angolmois is a (near) anagram of Mongolais, the 16th-century French term for Mongolians, invasion of Europe from the east was imminent – though whether by Russians, Chinese or tooled-up descendants of Genghis Khan riding like Dothraki hordes was uncertain. Nostradamus expert Prof Alexander Tollmann found the matter so worrying that he retreated to his bunker in lower Austria to wait out the catastrophe that never came. Mario Reading was the recipient of an Arts Council Writing Award for his novel-in-progress After Barbarossa. John F Kennedy’s assassination in Dallas, also supposedly foretold by Nostradamus. Photograph: American Photo Archive/Alamy All things considered, Nostradamus’ writings offer a rather sinister outlook for 2023 and beyond. Of course, it can all be very reasonably dismissed as the groundless speculation, or poetic fancies, of a dreamer who died nearly half a millennium ago.

I found Marco Reading’s interpretation of many of the prophecies required and enormous stretch of the imagination. Some of the claims were very sketchy and some were plain ridiculous. There are errors: Britain ceding from the EU (2060) it happened in 2020 40 years earlier; XCXXXXXXXXRevised and Updated Edition of This Internationally Bestselling Collection of Nostradamus Most Startling Prophecies Nostradamus was a 16-century French astrologer and physician whose prophecies earned him fame both during and after his lifetime. Historians have in the past noted that Nostradamus' reputation is largely manufactured by modern day audiences, who have tried to retrofit his vaguely phrased verses onto modern events and narratives. Reading's interpretation of this quatrain, which was featured in the author's 2005 book Nostradamus: The Complete Prophecies for the Future, gave a decidedly detailed decoding of what he believed those facts to mean. Some claim that Nostradamus predicted the rise of Adolf Hitler but did he also predicted a great war would occur in 2023. Turning to the quatrains of Nostradamus, one line particularly stands out: ‘ seven months great war, people dead through evil’.

He is also the author of eight non-fiction titles, including the Dictionary Of Cinema, the Movie Companion, the Watkins Dictionary Of Dreams, Nostradamus: The Complete Prophecies For The Future and Nostradamus: The Good News. His groundbreaking The Complete Prophecies Of Nostradamus was published in 2009 by Watkins Books, and 2010 saw the publication of an illustrated book, Nostradamus: The Top 100 Prophecies [available in 9 countries], and a revised edition of NTCPFTF. His most recent non-fiction book, Nostradamus & The Third Antichrist was published in March 2011. Reading’s non-fiction books have been published in 20 countries, and have sold more than 500,000 copies. Beyond the quatrain in question, an English translation of Les Prophiétes shows no direct reference to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, or any other queen. It was also claimed in the 3-minute video—which has been flagged by Facebook as containing false information—that Nostradamus predicted King Charles III would have a short reign due to public "resentment," with an "unexpected man" replacing him. The series of events, it was claimed would lead to the end of the monarchy. Nostradamus writes that 2K23 will find the world embroiled in, “Seven months great war, people dead through evil.” This could apply, albeit a bit late to the firefight, to the devastating conflict in Ukraine which thus far has been marked by war crimes and a heavy civilian death toll. In terms of the “evil” Nostradamus blames, hate-mongering, death-dealing, Libra Vladimir Putin comes pretty close to personifying it. In de introductie beweert de auteur ook dat de katernen jaartallen aangeven maar daar zie ik ook geen regelmaat in.Quatrain 8/15 as mentioned above reads "The masculine woman will exert herself to the north. She will annoy nearly all of Europe and the rest of the world. Two failures will put her in such an imbalance. That both life and death will strengthen eastern Europe." The prediction, claimed the video, was interpreted by Mario Reading, a British author who passed away in 2017. Nostradamus predicted the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the Credit Crunch in 2008 and the floods in New Orleans, as well as the Iraq war, the Twin Towers disaster and the devastating Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 – and he foretold the future for decades to come.

In this case we have plenty of doom, gloom, wars, pandemics, earthquakes, anti-christ and ultimately the end of all that is...... So this should be read with some caution. I am aware that Marco Reading was considered an expert on Nostradamus and if you want to believe his interpretations of these prophecies for the future that’s okay. However, there are 3 important facts that must be remembered when reading this and other books on Nostradamus.

World War III

Firstly he was expelled from the University of Montpellier for being an apothecary and never graduated with a degree in medicine. These details are in the university archives. Sometimes on the money but more often than not muddily missing the mark, our man’s prophecies lean towards conflagration and catastrophe.
