I have reviewed other "Welcome to the Museum Series" titles and highly recommend this series. This was a gift from my other half, I’m pretty sure it’s for kids, but he knew I would love it. It’s such a beautifully illustrated book, my photos won’t do it justice. It contains everything you need to know about what lives in our Oceans, from the worlds largest to some of the smallest species you can’t even see with your eyes! The original building rises from the river, and was designed by American architect Peter Chermeyeff. It houses the main tank, which holds as much water as four Olympic-sized swimming pools and can be seen from four levels, where high-tech displays explain everything in different languages. When a new 170,000-square-foot exhibit at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago opened on April 27, 1991, it debuted as the largest indoor marine mammal facility in the world. The position as world's largest oceanarium has since shifted repeatedly in recent years. From 2005 to 2012 it was the Georgia Aquarium in the United States with an initial total water volume of 32,000m 3 (8,500,000USgal), later it expanded to 38,000m 3 (10,000,000USgal), and home to 100–120,000 animals of 700 species. I would have rather see more marine animals, and for example how to protect the endangered species, than the boring introductions on the different categories.

This book gives a lot of interesting information about the ocean and the animal that live there. There are sections all about whales, fish, reptiles, and every type of weird creature you can imagine! The best time to visit the aquarium is in the morning or late afternoon for a quieter visit. While the aquarium is enjoyable anytime during its operating hours, this is the best time to go for fewer people. From the Oceanarium, take the boardwalk over the river or the cable cars above it to the Vasco da Gama Tower, and walk from there through Parque do Tejo to Vasco da Gama Bridge. An oceanarium can be either a marine mammal park, such as Marineland of Canada, or a large-scale aquarium, such as the Lisbon Oceanarium, presenting an ocean habitat with marine animals, especially large ocean dwellers such as sharks.
