About this deal

We’ve also tweaked the display settings and gamma to improve the color displayed by the LCD, improved the Timer app interface, and reduced the time needed for the watch to go to sleep. These are just some of the more noteworthy refinements, but this release has many other improvements and bug fixes.

Adjustable temperature: configure your own temperature settings from anywhere between 100° C to 400° C using the adjustment buttons

Thumb screws are popular upgrades: an M2 x 4mm thumb screw could replace both the front screen-side Tip holder screw and the ground screw in the rear of the handle. Older style chargers could become dangerously hot, whereas GaN can stay cooler, even in a smaller size.

I put the Pinecil through its paces, and and although the device is fully open source, give it a teardown for good measure. Spoiler: it’s my new favorite. For most soldering tasks, it all depends on what you are soldering and what the nearest power source is. Heating up to a stable 350 degrees Celsius was identical in our tests, with both power sources hitting the magic temperature in 15 seconds. We tested this with a USB-C bench power supply (Pine’s Pine Power) that provided 20V at 2.6A (52W) and a DC PSU which provided 19V at 2.1A (39.9W). Adjustable soldering tip temperature which can be set between 100° C and 400° C using the adjustment buttons and an easy-to-read OLED display. EPR is potentially the fastest/highest performance possible for V2; officially Pine Store states 12V-24V, 88W.To prevent battery overdrain, add this Pinecil setting which works for all the 18-21V tool batteries typical for Dewalt, etc.. Some tool brands have the overdrain protection already; it doesn't hurt to also set this in Pinecil or in case you don't know if your brand/type has it or not. Power source = 5S, Minimum Voltage = 3.3V The quality of the device out the box even when its open does matter. That said its a solder iron, that get hot in only a few seconds – that tells you its not going to be bad power wise. And using it seems a tip many folk already know and love it should be good there… If the GaN charger senses a potentially dangerous condition, i.e., overcurrent spikes, the chips are designed to go into a cycle-by-cycle sleep state, protecting the device. Over current protection in GAN. Siglo also received a few updates and released version 0.9.9 at the beginning of this month. In contrast, InfiniLink, the iOS companion app for InfiniTime, is still looking for a maintainer. Xan-m, the original author, announced a while ago that they would not be able to maintain the project and that they would transfer the project to anyone interested to take over it. In the meantime, the Github project was transferred to the InfiniTime organization on Github. We also plan on transferring the app to an Apple developer account managed by Pine64 to ensure that the app will be available on the app store when Xan-m’s account expires. In the V2 handle's side label, the 88W figure comes from a 6.5ohm tip calculation. The reason for using 6.5 instead of 6.2 for the new short tips calculation is due to tolerance during manufacturing, and leaving a conservative margin of error (actual tips appear to be 6.2 ohms). V2 set max voltage is listed as 24V because this was the value used during design and component selection.

Anker 737 28V-140W EPR (must use EPR-PD 3.1 240W cable if you want the full 28V, otherwise it will provide a lower PD20V) The Pinecil channel is the most popular for questions and troubleshooting such as help installing Firmware or use of Tips (and where most people discuss Pinecil/soldering). The pinecil-dev channel is a more limited chat for developers working on software/firmware such as IronOS or the new BLE Bluetooth apps.

Low cost soldering iron, with high end features.

However, some changes cannot always be integrated in the project, and for various reasons: they do not fit with the project vision or priorities, developers do not have the time to review them or… the changes consume too much memory! InfiniTime is an open source project. It means that the code is publicly available and that anyone is free to do whatever they want with it as long as they comply with the license of the project ( GPLv3). Therefore a lot of people contribute to the project by creating pull-requests and asking the core-developers to review and merge their contributions into the original project. The amperage draw (and wattage) is based on the input voltage and the resistance of the tip. 48W/21 = 2.28A. 2.28A/21V=9.2Ohms. In such cases, some developers decide to maintain a fork of InfiniTime with their changes. A fork is basically a copy of the project that they maintain on their own. To this day, InfiniTime counts 584 forks! Among these forks, you’ll find Sec42‘s fork that adds changes to make notifications easier to read by “old” eyes and Dmlls‘s fork which adds the Infineat watchface and is very well maintained. These forks are a good thing as they allow developers to make their contributions available to the public even if they cannot be merged in InfiniTime right now, and they provide more choice to the users. Everyone wins!
