When single-use plastics started getting a bad rap, S’well became the drinks bottle of choice for a host of celebrities and ‘influencers’. But they’re not all style over substance – the design consists of a triple-walled construction incorporating a copper layer for improved insulation. This flask is lightweight and practical – the ergonomic shape makes it easy to hold, the really wide mouth makes for easy drinking, filling and cleaning, and the grooved lid makes it easy to open, even if screwed on tightly. It’s sure to draw admiring glances if you leave it on your desk at the office. It’s just a shame that the capacity is a bit small, and it’s relatively expensive for a little flask. Beautiful lines as they say! Button-operated lids are more efficient to use than twist-and-pour stoppers – we found the button-operated lids to be more secure than the twist-and-pour stoppers. The downside of this approach is that a high capacity flask will be big and bulky. There’s no getting away from it. However, if you’re able to split your gear equally between all members of the team (e.g. one walker carries lunch, another carries the picnic blanket etc) then overall you will use less space than if you each carried smaller flasks.

This thermos flask is made of a combination of Stainless Steel, Polypropylene and Silicone, and the dimensions are an excellent 21.1 x 12 x 9.1 cm. It is sized extraordinarily well for solo hikers who are concerned about size and weight but still wish to carry a hot brew around to warm up with. In our opinion this is one of the best thermos flasks on the market today. My hot water was 93.6°C at 8:25pm, and I already had my suspicions, because the exterior was markedly hot compared to the others – a sure sign of heat escaping. At 8:25am it was 34.8°C – a significant temperature drop of 58.8°C after 12 hours. Unlike the other flasks, my cold water and cubes didn’t get colder – it got hotter. The marketing blurb says it keeps contents hot for 28 hours, or cold for 90 hours, which based on these results I can’t really see happening.The specifications state that hot drinks will stay steamy up to eight hours, whilst cold ones will be cool for 12. When tested, this insulated flask over-performed, keeping contents chilled for up to three days. This flask from OKADI gets full marks for its capacity and versatility. OKADI is a brand that has been serving people with quality products for the last 20 years and this particular model is their flagship model. It’s a big flask for big groups A big part of the appeal of the Stanley is that it makes you feel like an intrepid camper, thanks to the distinctive green branding. Your coffee will remain hot after 12 hours and your ice cubes will remain unmelted after a very decent 24 hours. So, you can still pour a chilled drink even after a long walk on a hot day. Part of this ability is due to the clever ‘honeycomb’ insulation used inside the Hydro Flask. It worked well for us!
