About this deal

The box contains 25 Space Marine models, 47 Tyranid models, a brand-new transfer sheet, an exclusive Leviathan book that collects lore, core rules, the Tyrannic War Crusade supplement, and the Chapter Approved Leviathan mission cards. Leviathan Space Marines unboxing

Within this colossal box, you'll discover a total of 72 brand-new miniatures, divided between the Space Marines and the Tyranids. Among them, the Emperor's Angels of Death are magnificently represented by an unstoppable Captain adorned in formidable Terminator Armor, a Librarian also clad in Terminator Armor, a Primaris Lieutenant donning Phobos Armor, a skilled Apothecary Biologis, five towering Terminators, five Sternguard warriors, a precision-focused Ballistus Dreadnought, and a group of 10 Infernus Marines wielding powerful pyreblasters.Arguably, the Infernus Squad are the least impressive of the Space Marines side of the box. The sculpts are still seriously impressive, and those flamethrowers will see people Googling “how to paint burn effects on Warhammer” in their thousands, but these guys are ultimately just space marines holding different guns. Just like the Tyranids, all 25 Space Marine models are easy-to-build push-fit models. The Terminator sprues come with an alternate bare head for the Sergeant and a teleport homer. The Infernus Squad, featuring a sprue of five models included twice, allows for building one model as either a Sergeant or grenade-lobbing Marine. Leviathan Terminator Captain and Winged Tyranid Prime sprues Leviathan Space Marine Terminators sprues The Tyranids side of the Leviathan box has more highs and lows than the Space Marines side. Whilst the Space Marines are all great, with a few really great miniatures, the Tyranids are, by and large, okay with one or two more disappointing minis, but also a couple of seriously impressive figures too. That does bring us to our only gripe about this box, which we’ll get out of the way up-front – no Datasheets. We assume this is because they’re going to be made available online (in fact, they may even be available as you’re reading this) but part of the fun of opening up a box like this is being able to slam the contents onto the table and start getting games in. We assume this is intended to prevent a repeat of what happened with Eradicators in 9th Edition, where the datasheet in the box was missing some limitations that were added in the codex, making them absurdly good early on, but we think that could have been avoided by including some simplified datasheets in the box that were explicitly just for games with the contents only. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it does feel odd in comparison to the Age of Sigmar Dominion box. The Rules These are a fantastic example of both how few parts you can get away with on a per model basis and probably the best example of a unit perfectly sized to be on a 25mm base. I don’t really think there’s any complaint you can really field about this kit, they are at exactly the level of detail you want for a bunch of little (presumably) cheap models and you can throw them together in minutes.

The onyl criticism I had of these minis was I struggled to line up one or two of their longer forelimbs. Everything else slots together with a great deal of ease, but I had a couple of arms that didn’t really want to sit where they were intended to. Termagants The Winged Tyranid Prime is an evolution of the Tyranid Warrior biomorph, a powerful melee monster and a command lynchpin for the Hive Fleet’s ground forces. The Winged Tyranid Prime was the final model from the starter set GW revealed before Warhammer Fest. The model is also very easy to assemble. Whilst this will come to the chagrin of many builders and painters, all the models in the Leviathan set are push-fit. This does mean that they won’t be quite as modular as some converters and kitbashers would like, as larger, more wholly-sculpted areas will be more difficult to chop and change. One thing to keep in mind, this will all be ETB (not a bad thing, just something to think about), and it might be a while before we see all the releases separately. Huge shifting swarms of Termagants are the mainstay of many Tyranid invasion forces. Armed with ranged bio-organic weapons, these scuttling beasts rush forward to erode their enemy’s defences through sheer weight of numbers. NeurogauntsThe Neurotyrant is the centrepiece of the Tyranid forces in the kit, a giant, psychic alternatve to the Hive Tyrant. This is an entirely psychic monsterthat bolsters the effect of the Shadow in the Warp – which the WarCom presenters say will be a board-wide rule for the new Tyranid faction. It recalls the design of the original, 2nd edition Tyranid Zoanthrope model. It goes into battle flanked by miniature “Neuroloids”, which relay its synaptic power across the battlefield. Librarians are the battle psykers of the Space Marines, smiting foes with bolts of witchfire and manipulating the empyrean to shield their allies. Encased in Terminator armour, he’s one of the most durable psykers available to Space Marine forces. Apothecary Biologis What really makes him stand out, though, are the liberties he’s taken with his armour. Typically, Space Marine commanders, heroes and elites are clean, uniformed, and covered in all sorts of pseudo-orthodox Catholic-style drip. This guy, however, criss-crossed with scars, with bits of his armour missing, sporting all sorts of kill trophies, and dual wielding two particularly nasty-looking daggers, cuts an altogether different figure. Combat Patrol is a new, simplified way to play Warhammer 40,000. It balances the Combat Patrol boxes available for each faction into their own game mode, granting certain units extra abilities and removing some from others.
