The good thing about this mirror dash cam is that it has been thoroughly tested by the folks at Digital Camera World. The GPS is fairly accurate, and you should have the speed and the timestamp on your videos. My lighter plug is only powered when my vehicle is on. I turned it on and the mirror fired right up. It starts recording automatically by default, which is great. If you touch the screen, the controls show up. The mirror records clips of 1, 3, or 5 minutes in a loop, up to the capacity of the card. Once full, it will begin overwriting starting with the oldest clip. One really nice feature is how the files are stored. All front videos are stored in a folder called “F” and rear videos in a folder called “R”. Both front and read clips start simultaneously and have sequential names like FILE200809-214241-000035F.MOV. The name contains the date (minus the century “20” of “2020”) and time of the recording (in military time), a sequence number, and “F” or “R”, depending on which camera took the video. If you choose the same sequence numbers from both cameras, you can combine them into one video with your own editing software. If your car has a screen, especially an aftermarket head unit, then your camera can be displayed on that. If you have an original (OEM) monitor, or none at all, you’ll likely need a separate monitor. Separate monitors might take the form of stand-alone items you can attach to your windshield or dash. Some of our favorites are integrated into a rear-view mirror. Fortunately, this isn't the case. The finish of the display is mirrored, so it functions as a rear-view mirror when the car is off. This has the slightly unfortunate side effect of making it difficult to photograph, but fortunately, when you're actually using it, the display is easy to see.

Do note that this Auto-Vox dash cam doesn’t come with an SD card and you will have to source one on your own. And while you do so, do remember to get a durable weather-resistant card. For the record, the V5 Pro supports up to 64GB microSD cards. All said and done, the Auto-Vox V5 Pro is among the best rear view mirror dash cams you can buy right now. Keep a Watchful Eye on the Road The video quality is excellent. The crisp 1080p footage is void of pixelations and blurry effects. However, the dash cam’s night vision works best when it is assisted by some external light.That said, the WOLFBOX G840S comes with a healthy mix of features including Parking Assist, GPS, G-Sensor, and Loop Recording. In fact, the G840S mirror dash cam comes with a 32GB TF card, which is great. Coming to the video quality, the M2’s 1440p resolution and HDR support ensure that you will be able to see recorded footage in all its glory. The video quality is crisp, with important details like license plate numbers superbly visible. This is very often above the license plate, with a camera designed to fit into the plate mount. The alternatives are a universal mount that can be placed anywhere (perhaps even inside the rear window) or perhaps a brand-specific design.

But once done, you will have an excellent mirror dash cam with impressive picture quality at your disposal. Secondly, for the price, the dash cam sports a robust construction. It’s not a complete replacement and you will have to mount it on top of your car’s existing rearview mirror with straps. Thankfully, the straps are well-built and they hold onto the mirror well.

Looking at the pics of the V5 pro it doesn't look like it will be compatible but as you can see in the pic above the clip will unscrew so I'm wondering if I can bodge something up? The only problem then is the plastic trim because the front bit shown in the 1st pic with the red arrow attaches to the casting of the mirror above so that would need to be bodged too. I just set the GPS receiver on the dash and popped in a SanDisk Ultra 64GB micro-SD card. With everything in-place, Let’s get to testing!
