About this deal

From this we can see a bit more detail. We see the four classic heroes, and what appears to be, possibly a new hero! The Avalon Hill post gives us some information about a new monster we will encounter in Rise of the Dread Moon. The Specter! (See monster card below) INCLUDES 10 THRILLING QUESTS: The Rise of Dread Moon expansion features 10 quests, as well as full-color tiles and 58 game cards, set in an elven world of monsters, traps, treasure, and Dread Moon spells

The first Specter will cast Channel Dread on the Rogue Heir. There is 1 monster next to the Specter, so we’ll add 1 to the roll of 1, making that 2. The Rogue Heir is safe for now. The Specter will float through the bookshelf to safety on the other side. Now, Avalon Hill and Hasbro have announced Heroquest Rise of the Dread Moon, a brand new expansion for the board game. Notably, this is the first new retail expansion for the game in thirty years. Heroquest Rise of the Dread Moon announcement I am now thoroughly convinced that, as HeroQuest Superfans, the Avalon Hill HeroQuest team are now just making their own homebrews official! Why wouldn’t they!? If I was a designer, working on HeroQuest, I would probably do that too!

Heroquest Rise of the Dread Moon announcement

The Commander of the Guardian Knights– This makes sense because he’s featured on the front of the box HeroQuest was a smash hit for tabletop gaming, as well as becoming a gateway to tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons for millions of players. The game also influenced later tabletop board games that came after, including Games Workshop’s own Warhammer Quest, board games based on D&D, and recent games such as Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. To Chris Nadeau, Avalon Bill (sorry Bill, I only know you by your Discord name), and the rest of the Team at Avalon Hill,

Rise of the Dread Moon adds new gameplay elements to the base HeroQuest set. This includes 29 miniatures, such as the Magus Guard shown here. Yesterday the Prequel Quest "Knightfall" was posted online. This is the one that has all those sold out GenCon sessions. It is being recommended to play first, but as many have pointed out, it seems worded towards beginner players, and yet at the same time doesn't serve to fully equip a team of basic heroes for the beginning of ROTDM (which has a difficulty comparable to KK/ROTWL or Prophecy of Telor/Spirit Queen's Torment, at first glance). Also an ethereal monster, and one that isn’t what we thought. Common belief was that the Dread Wraith would show up as a boss character, it looks more likely to just be a really powerful entity in Zargon’s ranks. A quest booklet contains 10 scripted adventures that sends a party of two to five adventurers into dangerous locales as they attempt to free Elethorn from the control of returning villain Zargon (extremely genre pulp names, both). The dramatic story of treachery and unrest in the elven kingdom continues in this HeroQuest Rise of the Dread Moon expansion! As a brave knight, you’re challenged to finally free Elethorn from the clutches of Zargorn. Embark on dangerous quests, as you seek the aid of the Cadre of the Raven's Veil to help stop Zargorn's forces of Dread from destroying the kingdom. Navigate through a dark labyrinth of waterways, an underground city, and more perilous locations. But be wary—for Zargon's forces grow ever stronger with the rise of the Dread Moon!

Edit: Confirmed this is NOT an "alternate cover" to an existing project (Mage of the Mirror or otherwise) or a remake of a legacy product but something "completely new." Beneath the surface, evil machinations are travel and communications within the kingdom have been disrupted and a group of Guardian Knights investigating Zargon’s agents has gone missing. Furthermore, an astrological event, called the Night of the Dread Moon is close at hand. This event that occurs once every 1000 years strengthens the power of Dread Magic. Side A: 8 Lunar tokens (front), 6 caltrops, 2 trap doors, 4 disguises, 2 mirrors, 4 mercenaries, 1 elf assassin, 1x "5" reputation token, 6 "shield" reputation tokens (front), 1 "plaza" tile (5x6 room)

shrinkwrapped box with linen finish (just like Mage of the Mirror). no cardboard outer wrap or tape circles this time. Anyways, I took some time to playtest this guy against a party of brave heroes. Let’s see how it went. What’s Scarier, Spells or a Sword?! One thing I find particularly interesting about the Mercenaries is the fact that the Cadre of the Raven’s Veil isn’t mentioned in the rules portion of the Quest Book, nor is it a part of the story at the beginning, during Mentor’s message. Hopefully the Cadre becomes a bigger part of the story during the quests. Alchemy & Potions

Product Added

Next up is the Guardian Knight, also rolling a 7, he will engage the Dread Warrior as well. The Guardian Knight manages to land just one blow on the Dread Warrior.

Thanks HispaZargon for the edit! Formerly this was titled "New "Knight" Expansion (PulseCon 2022) News & Discussion" First released in 1989 as a joint venture between Games Workshop and Milton Bradley, HeroQuest is arguably one of the most influential board games in the hobby. Its design and structure helped clear the way for an entire ecosystem of similar titles. The decades since found HeroQuest as a hard-to-find collector’s item until Hasbro and Avalon Hill crowdfunded a new edition in 2020.When playing an older quest, Zargon can price potions as they are presented in that material or use these new costs if their Dread powers command it.
