This is not necessarily a performance metric, but a big plus for anxious types like me is that these stylers automatically turn off after 60 minutes of not being used for extra peace of mind. What’s not so good about them?

For the tool to learn about your hair, you need to wrap your hair around the StyleAdapt sensor that takes the form of a raised bar that’s approximately 4cm long on the underside of the wand, and wait 10-20 seconds for your hair to curl, whilst an LED indicator spins to show that the styler is learning about your hair.There are lots of good things to say about the Remington hair curler, and if you’re in the market for a new curling wand then Remington is a good brand for a hair curler.

This hair straightener has a function that sets the temperature to 185C, which the brand says helps create healthy and shiny hair minus the guilt from daily styling. It's designed to target heat where the hair needs it most and Remington says the results should last up to 24 hours, too. The hot plates are ceramic-coated and “ultra-smooth” to avoid snagging and are supposed to deliver 5x smoother results than your standard ceramic straighteners. It also has nine heat settings, going up to 230C.When you turn the straightener on for the first time, it automatically defaults to StyleAdapt1 mode. Then, as you work through the hair section by section the sensor strip in the center of the plates starts getting to know your hair. The little icon on the display panel spins as you style, indicating that it’s learning what your hair needs and adjusting the temperature accordingly. The sensors can read the hair temperature up to 2,500 times in a single styling session, but neither the current temperature (nor any changes to the temperature) are shown on the display. You can also choose how powerful you want the heat distribution, shown by the LED lines around the side of the LCD display. The three metre long cord also helped make styling an easier experience, as I can’t bear too-short styling cords that mean you can’t move from one spot. So, is it worth it? I loved the idea of a styler that adapts to my hair, but I can’t truthfully say that I’ve seen a difference from a standard curler.

Remington’s Proluxe You Adapt Straighteners heat up in an impressive 15 seconds, and I started on the curliest parts of my hair in the StyleAdapt1 mode. The first time I used them, it took two slow passes through each section of hair to properly smooth and straighten, but by the second use, it only took one go. It felt much hotter from the second go too, and I can only assume this is because the straightener had learned that it needed to bring out the big guns to whip my hair into shape. I’m not one to curl my hair every day, so perhaps this is a tool for die-hard curler users that want or need a tool to both style and take care of their hair.

If you share your straighteners with someone else, Remington has catered for that too. There is the option to move the mode to StyleAdapt2, a second profile that means someone else can personalize the straightener to their hair type without overriding your settings.
