About this deal

I played Tails Adventure on 3DS (Virtual Console), I beat it using the restore points but I didn't really enjoy it. I haven't played many metroidvania games but I loved Super Metroid because the labyrinth isn't that bad and it's artistically impressive. The original version of the game was unforgivably blurry on PC at launch (though fixed with fan mods) because of Sega's poor implementation of the Retro Engine, making it run on a stretched polygon to allow their menu system. Absolutely stupid being that the retro engine is perfectly designed to integer scale to 720p, 1440p, and 4k with perfectly crisp pixels (1080p is slightly soft as its 4.5) and their insistance on using their own ugly, plain menmu system (rather than the beautiful bespoke ones of Mania) ruined the crisp output. The "Killer Apps" were fantastic, but still not worth the price of admission for most, when the Saturn was on the horizon so it was obvious they'd have a short shelf life, like the 3dO and Jaguar - again, both of which have a handful of incredible titles well worth owning... just not enough to justify the console cost at the time.

I've also programmed my own highly customisable CRT filter so people can hone in the look they want if they want to make it look like an old tv or monitor and ruin all my extra efforts to make the image as perfect as possible! lol New Feature - Players can toggle off Anti-Aliasing to have a "nearest neighbor" pixel rendering in Sonic 1/2/3&K/CD and all Game Gear games in the Options Menu.I think the reason the Universal Nintendo areas were made possible by the fact that Mario has been such a consistently well known and loved franchise/character for nearly 40 years, so kids, teens, parents, even gran parents have a fondness for the brand. Its like Disney, its just a universal of most people's childhoods. Of course, Sonic has been around for much of that time too, and always been popular with kids because of the constant release of new tv shows, but the games having mixed quality means that a lot of the kids grow up to become parents and while their kids are liking sonic, some parents are less enthusiastic because they fell out with Sonic at somepoint as a teen or an adult playing a game they didn't like. UsurperKing As for recomendations for 3D Sonic games. Well, as I said, none of them are perfect, but there definitely fun to be had. Here's my 2 cents:

Sonic Origins presents four of the hedgehog's best games with style, and it's a joy to revisit these iconic platformers. Presentational flourishes like the animated cutscenes, as well as a host of extra modes like Boss Rush and Missions, give fans and newcomers alike plenty to see and do, and the Museum is full of interesting artwork you might not have seen before. BTB20 @Bigmanfan Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World are my 2 favourite 2d Mario games. I agree Sonic 1 isn't as good, but I think Sonic 2 and Sonic 3&K compete very well. Infact, on balance, perhaps those 2 Sonic games are stronger than the Mario ones? All 4 games are in my top 25 favourite games though, so its subjective. I just think its interesting that there was once a world where Sega and Sonic were big enough for all that to exist, several times over in multiple countries. I'll never not be sad that despite there being 5 locatoins in the UK, and me being at my peak Sega/Sonic fandom at the time they existed, I never got to visit any of them because we didn't have much money and my dad (sensibly) put a 100 mile round trip limit on places we could visit. I remember seeing videos of the Sega version of the Trocadero in London (7 floor indoor arcade venue!) and hearing of friends going to the Bournemouth Sega World, and just thinking it was the coolest things ever. I remember the NES was on display in shops like Dixons and Children’s World, so I was familiar with the classics (and wanted them to replace my Speccy) but once the Mega Drive launched that was all I wanted. I did play on a SNES a couple of times but it never impressed me enough to want one over the MD (it still feels sluggish to this day but that’s probably 50hz games). With hindsight and having played the SNES since, it’s a great system but it just never seemed as popular in my part of the UK, though I believe it actually eventually outsold the Mega Drive. That didn’t seem the case when I was young though. Game Gear Titles – Play 12 classic Sonic Game Gear titles on modern platforms, including hits like Sonic Drift 2, Sonic & Tails 2, and Tails Adventure! In Quartz Quadrant Zone 2, Amy will no longer disappear as the camera moves away in certain conditions. I really feel with such a passionate director, who's listening to fans an implementing requests, fixing things people don't like, even trying out community made mods and fangames & implementing ideas from them into the official game, the future of 3D Sonic games is in the best hands its ever been in.

Banjo- Right now (because I am in a Sonic mood and can't sleep) I'm reworking my "retro engine" style platforming engine into something that I can release as an open source free engine for people who want to make fan games... and/or a standalone fangame that people will be able to make their own levels and mods for... like Mario Maker, but for Sonic. I'm still super hyped for this game, just like I and many people were with the original version of this post early this morning when the news was breaking. I myself made 5 detailed comments, responding to others, who responded to me. It was a fun and exciting time for fans sharing the experience in real time. Banjo- Hey no problem! Glad you found it interesting, if you can't tell I'm a complete nerd for this kinda stuff. I recently watched the Gtv documentary on Kirby's Adventure - I remember thats the first NES game I saw in a shop kiosk that "wow'ed" me - and its amazing just how far it was pushing the system past what it was designed for.Almost any of the games that look like they could at least compete with the Master System use it - Super Mario Bros 2 and 3, Kirby's Adventure, Wario's Woods, Adventure Island 4... around 300 titles. And around 400 older titles use the MMC2, which was the same but slightly less powerful. Shea, Brian (June 13, 2021). "Sonic Team Head Talks Sonic Origins, Next Mainline Game, And 30th Anniversary". Game Informer . Retrieved April 20, 2022. Comparing Sonic and Mario games is pointless. Firstly, Sonic levels are more complex, bigger and have lots of paths. That's why there are only two or three levels (acts) per world (zone). They are infinitely replayable. It's completely unfair comparing Sonic and Mario levels 1:1. Banjo-"I can't believe we finally reached the point when both Sonic 2D and 3D games are solid 😂." Haha yeah its taken a long time for us to get there. We are in the good times! That said, the 2 Sonic movies broke records for videogame movies (until Mario smashed it... but they still beat Pokemon anime and Detective Pikachu) and Frontiers is the fastest selling Sonic game ever, and the highest selling in exactly 20 years. Its certainly on a big upswing.

Banjo- @BenoitRen Not trying to extend the argument but technically, the Game Gear versions of the games are both cropped/zoomed AND have a lower resolution for the art and levels, in some cases. or 3) If they end up delaying Frontiers (as I suspect is likely being we haven't seen any gameplay yet) make Origins Plus the Christmas release to fill that spot. Banjo- Haha you must play ALL MY GAMES bwa ha haaaa. We have 4 in development for Switch, but Hazel is the biggest one by far and will take the longest to complete, but we hope will be popular enough to warrant starting a whole series using the characters and world, and maybe an animated film or series too! I'm very proud of how well its all coming together. All 4 games are very much a love letter to 16bit games and exactly the kind of thing I'd have loved to play as a kid (and are like Sonic Mania/Origins in that they are 424x240 res, with proper pixel accurate scaling recreative the look and feel of games from that period but in widescreen 60fps!) One of the games I'm making for switch is a Metroidvania, starring Hazel Witch, the little girl with purple hair in my avatar! So I hope you will at least like that, even if its not your favourite genre... we've worked very hard to make sure people don't get lost - theres great interactive maps and she has a cute little bat that follows her around, and you can always talk to him for clues or get him to fly to where secrets are or show where you should be heading
