About this deal

My main issue is that these songs, while well-written, don't have the urgency of his Soundgarden stuff, and urgency is his finest attribute.

Edit: Bumping this up to a 3, because while I still endorse my prior review the fact is that there are too many guilty bangers on here to leave this as a straight down the middle average album. Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Jalen perform live knows that he is one of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene. That being said, the performances on here from the RATM core of the group are solid, so despite its flaws this is not something I can wholeheartedly trash. The reason Music For Films makes it to this list though is precisely because we weren't totally enamoured with it before we heard Showell's half-speed version running at 45rpm; the sonic upturn in all from detail to dynamics, though admittedly often subtle, for us gave the music new dimension.

It's a very consistent project, keeps the energy going very strongly, with just the last track being a slow down in the pace - which works perfectly as a closer.

As nostalgic as some of these songs are at this point, this album just does not hold up particularly well as a cohesive project. This album, with the exception of a couple of lighter moments, is pretty consistent in it's style and perhaps a couple of tracks could have been dropped because it does seem to drag on a little but there are plenty of highlight tracks to admire including; 'Like A Stone', 'I Am The Highway', and 'Getaway Car'. The Audioslave debut isn’t nearly what you’d expect from a powerhouse rock team-up like this, but if you don’t come in with high expectations, it’s pretty good for what it is. The argument that placing a record upon the platter helps prepare the mind for deeper listening is just as relevant when discussing Arca's self-titled album from 2017. This album, released in 2018, was somewhat a departure from much of his previous house music output, and a generally more laid-back affair.

A routinely great artist, much of Sufjan's universal appeal comes from his skills as a gifted narrator, pairing personal musings on love and devotion with commentary on American culture, whilst welding folk and electronica, the ambient and existential. Let It Be has over a half-century of reworks, remixes, and new pressings, but in 2021 Giles Martin and Sam Okell got back to the studio to create a truly modern mix of the classic record, bringing an unrivaled sense of clarity, texture, and separation to the recordings. It really needs a bass-boost from your stereo system or you might feel let down (even at high volume) - it misses bass, warmth, sounds like a CD-mastering.Nice to have in the collection, but might find it's way back on the trade block as I listen to vinyl for room filling, soul touching sound. Consequentially, the often bland, silly lyrical content combined with really sterile, generic production give results that are sort of underwhelming. Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and crack team of a-list musicians, his upcoming album blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment. It's a scary thing, replacing an over-played record with a brand new press, but doing so with Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures worked a treat for us. I always feel so powerful after each time I listen to this album, it never fails to give me a huge energy boost for the day whenever I need it.

Now with a massively successful US tour opening for sweet soul darlings Thee Sacred Souls behind him, 2023 is sure to be a propitious year for Daptone's newest signee. better than its CD counterparts: I never realised how good, powerful and warm it can sound until today. Good debut record, as a fan of Soundgarden but not so much of RATM I wasnt really sure how this would go, I didnt like it much initially but has grown on me over the years.

This could have have sounded a lot better, so count this one as another album trashed by Rick Rubin’s production. I haven't found anything on this double black vinyl version, but it's definitely not a fake, as it comes with digital download and that worked! I've tested both back to back and the original packs a stronger punch, it's fuller, the bass is more present and it just sounds much more explosive overall. Gamma Player from the classic Humana EP (under his Millsart alias) is the warm and dreamy highlight, marrying tight, deep bass notes with crisp, hypnotic melodies.
