It would be unfortunate to see a beautiful pen damaged or dissolved by cleaning with the wrong supplies (especially since you mentioned that your friend was a "clean-freak". I got this pen sight unseen and when I opened the package to see what was inside it was a definite "whoa" moment.

I have some AL-Sport reviews on the blog, and also a dual review of the Dia2 that I did with a friend.com/forum/topic/287841-kaweco-liliput-fireblue/ Fluegelfeder mentioned something in his review that I hadn't considered as a possible issue - he wondered whether or not the coloring from the annealing process of the steel that gives the fireblue it's unique and one-of-a-kind coloring/finish would fade in time. I'm wondering if there is anything that would react with the actual oxide layer that makes the metal look blue (among other colors obviously). Branding is minimal — just a laser-etched logo in the domed steel of the pen end, and a little more round the barrel. Would it be possible to preserve the unique look by means of a few layers of durable transparent lacquer or something like that?

I wandered down the watercolor aisle muttering to myself, "I do not need anymore watercolor palettes. All this talk of screwing and unscrewing the parts of the pen puts me in mind of Christopher Lee assembling his pistol out of a cigarette lighter, fountain pen and other bits and bobs in The Man With The Golden Gun. I am not sure if anyone has had one of these pens long enough to know one way or the other, or if someone with experience with annealed metal can tell us, but I, too, am curious about this.The Supra nib unit is a bigger version of the convenient screw-in/screw-out nib unit found on all Kaweco pens above the basic range. That’s a comfortable weight for me for writing, but makes for a solid-feeling pen that seems able to withstand the slings and arrows of carry-around use. I'm betting there's a lacquer out there that will work with the metal itself (think of all the stainless steel door knobs that have a glossy lacquer finish; or the brass hand rails with a glossy lacquer -- even brass horn instruments like trombones, trumpets, etc use a lacquer that is rather durable), but I'm wondering if there is anything that would react with the actual oxide layer that makes the metal look blue (among other colors obviously).
