About this deal

It follows the adventures of a small stuffed bear named Bear and his roommate/ antagonist, a psychotic housecat named Looshkin. The stories are marked by a combination of violent shocks, random silliness, and other hallmarks of Dada. These comics start out normally, until the title character starts doing something his own way and/or just uses his own imagination, and things escalate from there all the way to the end of each comic, with lots of hilarious antics! Smart's linework is bold and expressive, and his panels are littered with information and throw-away gags. This is a collection of short comic strips, each with their own bonkers ‘storyline’, making it easy to dip in and out of Looshkin’s world.

Make sure you have these on the shelf next to Jamie Smart’s equally fabulous Bunny Vs Monkey seriestoo. Here, Looshkin confuses some astronauts, terrifies some aliens, becomes the head of marketing for a day (because he’s wearing a tie) and gives a garden gnome the adventure of a lifetime. Looshkin has also been known to have a very vivid imagination, but all of the things he says or does come from his suspected dementia.

In fact, the book should come with a warning – readers are in danger of laughing themselves into an injury. He said it was “so funny it made his heart die” and he wanted to “spend all his money on more Looshkin books”.

Bear is Karl's best friend, and they sometimes have serious discussions although both have acknowledged a distaste for doing so. There are also some appropriately hilarious separator or filler pages, likely filling in for the last or first page of the previous or next comic or article from when it originally ran in the magazine. An outrageously fun graphic novel in a class of its own for silliness, readers will just love the hilarious absurdity of Looshkin. Karl, Looshkin's hapless bachelor owner, thinks Looshkin is just lonely and needs a female cat to play with, but the traumatized Bear vehemently disagrees. His activities usually consist of senseless babblings and innumerable sadistic acts on people, chiefly his housemate Bear, or whoever is closest when he gets his hands on a likely weapon.Amidst all the chaos though, Bunny, Monkey, Weenie and Pig are proper characters, always believable, no matter what they’re up to. Looshkin appeared in the first Bear comic, in which he had unwittingly forgotten stowing Karl's previous pet dog Marmalade in a closet to protect him from evil bats in the laundry room. He is a bipedal creature with opposable thumbs that make him able to pick up objects, much to the displeasure of others. Poor Bear often bears the brunt of Looshkin’s energy, along with the rest of the family, and although the events are surreal and hectic, there are lots of laughs throughout.

He has appeared on Sky TV and on the BBC, as well as in numerous publications including The Daily Telegraph. This bright, super-fun graphic novel stars Captain Spaceington and his wacky crew as they travel the universe in their spaceship, the Star Cat.
