Now Dance - The 80s is a quadruple-disc and triple-vinyl compilation album that was released in the United Kingdom on 17 February 2023 on CD, vinyl and downloadable formats. In 1985, NOW Music released ‘NOW Dance: The 12” Mixes’, a 20-track compilation that included the extended or remix versions of some of the biggest recent hits and popular club tracks.

Granted, a few tracks are edited and the odd 7" version found its way in, but for the most part they were excellent value. NOW Music proudly present ‘NOW Dance – The 80s’; a selection of 26 tracks that appeared on those three original ‘NOW Dance’ albums – all in their 12”, extended or remixed versions across a 3LP set, pressed on red vinyl. This is the 2nd recent NOW compilation to include a rare Eurythmics 12" mix that had never been on CD before (the other being There Must Be An Angel) so at least THEY are doing what Sony has refused to do for the Eurythmics catalog, and I am grateful for it! If you are familiar with the originals, then the track listing, especially of CD 1, will look pleasingly familiar, starting with John ‘Tokes’ Potoker’s 12-inch version of Philip Bailey and Phil Collins’ UK number one ‘Easy Lover’ before moving on to The Power Station’s ‘Some Like It Hot’, Eurythmics’ Would I Lie To You? Now we just need Who's That Girl, Right By Your Side, You Have Placed A Chill and Do You Want To Break Up 12" mixes to make their CD debut.

Massive club and Dance tracks that crossed over to become equally big chart hits from 1986 include ‘We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off’ from Jermaine Stewart, ‘Ain’t Nothin’ Goin’ On But The Rent’ from Gwen Guthrie, ‘(You Are My) All And All’ from Joyce Sims, plus Aretha Franklin, Grace Jones, and Jaki Graham. The first NOW Dance was released in 1985 (on 2LP and double cassette) and two further volumes were issued in 1986 and 1989.

It’s the Eighties so of course the remixes are all good-to-great and they ‘respect’ the song in the way that those Trouser Enthusiasts of the 1990s didn’t. Of course the deeper into it the nearer you get to the end of the 1980s and so there’s the 12″ mixes of Neneh Cherry’s‘Buffalo Stance’ and Paula Abdul’s ‘Straight Up’, the Extended Mix of Bobby Brown’s ‘My Prerogative’ and the Full Length Disco Mix of Coldcut feat.
