About this deal

Battery life will naturally fade over time, but even so you should be able to comfortably take this brush on a two-week trip without worrying about bringing the charger along.

The brush head also tells the toothbrush which mode to select: using a gum care brush head will select the optimal mode, although you can always override the setting. A microchip-enabled technology that detects and synchronises the smart brush head with the smart handle. Just about the only thing missing from the ProtectiveClean 6100 is support for a smartphone app to monitor your brushing. Clean mode is standard for superior cleaning; White is the ideal mode for removing surface stains; and the Gum Care mode adds an extra minute of reduced-power brushing, so you can gently massage your gums. The ProtectiveClean 6100 doesn’t bother with complicated connected features, but is instead intended to be as simple and effortless to use as possible. To start with, the toothbrush begins in EasyStart mode, which slowly increases power over 14 initial uses, to help you get used to it. Available in six colours (black, blue, pink, white, blue and purple), it’s easy to find one that suits your tastes. You want to make sure that your toothbrush will not cause you more harm than good if you have to deal with constant sensitivity.

All three models also have a dual charging battery that can be charged anywhere in the world with a proper plug adapter. models, which offer a similar design and use the same brush heads, but support fewer modes and intensities, and also drop the BrushSync feature. We will be comparing that, as well as many other distinguishing factors between the three Sonicare models. The ProtectiveClean 6100 lasted for 23 days before quitting, with a low battery indicator triggering on the 19th day of our test, which put it roughly in the middle of the group.

Just about the only thing missing from the ProtectiveClean 6100 is support for a smartphone app to monitor your brushing, but we’re slightly sceptical about the long-term benefits of connected brushes anyway. On top of that lukewarm performance, this toothbrush is also a bit on the more expensive side, making it overall somewhat unappealing to recommend. We test how long the battery lasts when it's fully charged so we can recommend the models with the longest stamina. Since it has three cleaning modes and three different intensity levels, it will be a perfect fit for everyone with any level of sensitivity. This toothbrush allows you to customise your brushing with a choice of three modes and three intensities.

However, there were a few judges that missed significant amounts of plaque in the harder to reach areas of their mouths, such as the inner surfaces of their teeth or back by their molars, precluding the 6100 from one of the top scores in this test. BrushSynch mode pairing is a feature that tells you how long you have been using your brush head, how hard you have been using the brush, and when you will need to replace your brush head. This feature will allow you to have a more effective teeth cleaning experience, which will consequently lead to healthier teeth and gums.Philips boasts that the 6100 will last for 14 days of regular use without a charge, butI eked it out toover 20 days – brushing twice a day – and the low battery indicatordidn’t even kick in untilday 21. The charging dock is a bog-standard one, and the travel case feels rather cheap and doesn’t have an integrated charger.
