We will be using the skills we have developed over the year to sketch a modern-day beach scene and making comparisons with that of a Victorian beach. Invented in the early to mid-18th century, at a time when men and women had to legally use separate parts of the beach and sea, bathing machines were designed to preserve a woman’s modesty at the seaside by acting as a changing room on wheels that could be dragged into the water.

This term we will be looking at time, reminding ourselves about o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to times before moving on to telling the time to 5 minutes. The use of bathing machines was part of the etiquette for sea-bathing to be observed by both men and women who wished to behave "respectably. Her Majesty’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 saw a significant upsurge in visitors and many rooms were redecorated.After the old house was demolished in 1848, the main wing, completed in 1851, was built on its site, and was linked by a long corridor to the household wing. So far we have spoken about what we already know about water and have thought of some things we would like to find out. She will be linking this with our topic of survival to create a short animation based on what we have learnt this term.
