About this deal

The Sonicare brush head replacement subscription is all about bringing convenience to your healthy smile. You may notice a bit of a dip in the presence regions, but it doesn’t feel scooped out when you’re listening to it.

The 560S is just as comfortable and based on literally the exact same design as the 598 and 599 lol. The bass has a medium impact, from my memory, the bass has notably more presence than the SHP9500 which sounded bass shy to me, but less bass presence than the Fidelio X2. My friend with HD800 and HD650 also didn't like SHP9500 either (we each bought a pair at the same time). Some songs still have that essiness, but to me, that mostly boils down to the way the track was recorded.

That makes sense considering that the most common use case for these headphones is critical listening where you’re right next to the vinyl player / amp / PC, but it definitely impacts overall usability. They do have a moderate clamp to them, so it might be a little bit hard on larger heads, I have an average size head and it's not a bad clamp to me, but it's definitely not "disappear on your head" comfortable lol.

It was very clear to me when unboxing the SHP9600 that the bulk of what you pay here goes to the headphone, but hey, I think that’s a good thing; and you get everything you really need to get going. We didn’t feel like we could hear quite as much detail from the Fiio X5 as we could with another, higher-end pair of open-backs like the Fidelio X3. While I am extremely pleased with these for movies, and I highly recommend them for that capacity, the focus of this review is mainly regarding music from my main headphone rig.while i feel the clarity of the voices in the 9600 are better, the bass is just too muddy for me to distinguish the drums to the actual bass instrument. But based from this review it sounds like SHP9600 might be worth to try again, also if they are on sale then it makes it even better.

Saying that, though, if these were your only headphones, you'd be none the wiser as they still are definitely not one-note in the bass department. The SHP 9500 are very “airy” and perhaps even wider than the X2HR, very light clamping force, not “isolating” at all. The build feels pretty sturdy, it's mostly plastic with some metal for the adjustment and mesh grille. I've never felt imaging or soundstage were a strength of the LCD-2, but it is a strength of the HD 650.

Philips SHP9600 Open-Back Headphones review | TechRadar

It’s truly astounding that a gigantic conglomerate again came out of nowhere and slapped us in the face with this product. They have surprisingly good bass extension, and whilst they still see quite a bit of roll-off under 60hz, it’s a more gradual decline than that of the DT 990 Pro, HD 58X, and the SHP 9500; all which experience much more drastic roll-off, and are more lacking in subbass depth as a result. I also have to give the Koss KSC75 and KPH30i a shout here, as they're quite well tuned, even if the former lacks low-end, similar to the 9600s.I mainly intended for this purchase to act as my movie headphones when plugged into my Yamaha RX-V485 receiver with Silent Cinema. With the 9500, there’s more air and clarity, but at the expense of a somewhat more fatiguing high-end and not as much meat on the bass. These headphones are voiced very well for a variety of rock and pop genres, but they also excel at movies. some genres are better in the shp9600 like more cleaner music where these not much bass and just clean vocals and strings.
