About this deal

Stella’s sister Madeleine was pregnant, and her husband had insisted that she left London for the the safety of the countryside. I had never read anything by Ben Cheetham before I read this book, but now I must add his name to the list of authors to keep an eye out for. Intriguing, breathtaking, heartbreaking, stunning – Some houses are never at peace Highly recommended. Stella investigating the mysterious goings-on with the skeptical Mr Sheers and sullen close-mouthed Annie is a recipe for much tension and drama!

Sensing the Beyonder, the Lost One came to Earth but was blocked by a shield powered by four crystals, secretly four Beyonders in a crystalline form provided by the Beyonder. Mrs Henge’s introduction is symptomatic of this: we know that she can only ever be the most villainous of villains or the main red herring. This is an excellent and extremely atmospheric haunted house story set in 1917, a time stricken by loss due to the First World War. These ladies shift back and forth between being antagonists to allies or vice versa as the mystery deepens and Stella’s investigation ruffles feathers in the household. Little Erin is missing, and her parents are desperate to have her back, but has someone taken her or is she just lost? There are a great mix of characters some of whom you'll like and some you'll hate and the storyline never lets up. The Lost Ones instantly caught my eyes with its wonderful cover and I thought the description of the book sounded very exciting. Frank extends this impression of women as anxious, full of paranoia and hysteria when Stella’s pregnant sister (also suffering the loss of an unborn child) and maid Annie begin to see things out of the ordinary. Cal-Horra deactivated the shield, absorbed the four Beyonders powering it, and dissipated the Beyonder.

I did guess some stuff here but it didn't take away any of my enjoyment this really is one I recommend highly. In a nutshell, this is an enjoyable and absorbing crime fiction that will provoke the thoughts of its readers. There's no locations as such as it's a fictional mansion in a fictional village but OMG this book is good. Enjoyed the book, as usual for this author - but, also as usual, I reached the last page without the questions I had being answered, or even addressed. Frank zones in on those left behind to pick up the pieces, the senseless loss of life, and the dedication of those who signed up to fight for their country. Maybe it’s because I’m a parent and I know I will be able to relate to the parents in the book or maybe it’s because I’m a bit weird, but the combination of a missing young girl that’s possibly tied to a cold case screamed READ ME NOW to me.
