About this deal

Ana, a Christian suspected of helping Jewish people, and Ester, a Jewish girl, both help the mothers of Birkenau during their pregnancies and labor. As there are other general nurses, but no dedicated midwife in the compound, Ester decides to enlist Ana’s help to train herself, so that she can help those women in need. Following the outbreak of war in 1939, Leszczyńska joined the National Armed Forces resistance movement in Łódź. After interrogation by the Gestapo, Stanisława Leszczyńska and her 24-year-old daughter Sylwia were transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp on April 17, 1943, and tattooed with the camp numbers 41335 and 41336 respectively.

Leszczyńska and her assistants did their best to tattoo the babies who were taken in the hopes they would later be identified and reunited with their mothers. In this book Anna discusses/includes violence, persecution of the Jews, murder of children and adults and death. According to Leszczyńska’s report, during the time she was incarcerated in Auschwitz II Birkenau she delivered 3,000 babies. Stanisława Leszczyńska, Raport położnej z Oświęcimia ( The Report of a Midwife from Auschwitz), Przegląd Lekarski, Nr 1, 1965.

I am a huge fan of 'The Tattooist Of Aushcwitz' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. An absolutely heart-breaking and page-turning WW2 novel of one woman’s bravery and determination to bring life and hope into a broken world. I am not entirely sure whether the characters in this book are based off of real people, regardless - this is some seriously skilled storytelling. On January 27, 1970 Stanisława attended an official celebration in Warsaw, where she met the women prisoners of Auschwitz and their grown-up children who had been born in the camp. During her two-year internment at Auschwitz, the Polish midwife delivered 3,000 babies at the camp in unthinkable conditions.

Muchos bebés fueron tatuados en la axila con el número de prisionera de su madre, todo de manera clandestina y con la finalidad de poder localizarse en un futuro.Perfect blonde babies will be selected from the newborns for Germanisation, ripped from their mother's arms as they suckle to be brought up in "good Fuhrer loving homes". Overall, this book is heartbreaking but lacked the proper writing to really have this book sink in for me. No obstante, también comprobaremos como el Amor y la fuerza de voluntad, así como la confianza en la ayuda de los demás que otorga estar en la misma situación que otras personas, son pilares donde agarrarse para no perder ni la cordura ni las esperanzas. To make ends meet, her mother worked 12-hour shifts at the Poznański factory; her earnings allowed Stanisława to go to a private school where Polish was the medium of instruction. Suddenly things take an altogether more sinister twist of fate, when the elderly, the infirm, and the youngest children, are rounded up and ostensibly sent to be housed, in the newly built labour camp of Auschwitz.

The Midwife of Berlin: Completely unforgettable and totally

A must read , one of books of this year for sure … such a heart-breaking story … You will need plenty of tissues to get through this real life story … The emotions I went through reading this book were unbelievable … I loved it. This book is a fictional story about a Polish midwife named Ana Kaminski and a Jewish nurse, Ester Pasternak. Nazi-occupied Vienna, 1940: An absolutely heartbreaking story—based on devastating real events—about tragedy, friendship and courage in the face of impossible odds. Some non-Jewish women were allowed to keep their babies, but they usually perished quickly due to the conditions in the camp.
