About this deal

Watson brilliantly pays homage to the Golden Age of Detective fiction, while giving the genre a contemporary feel. While there are a whole host of characters to get to know, author Katy Watson encourages each vivid and vibrant individual to stand out in their own right. When fictional death turns into real bodies, can the three Dahlias find the answers to the murders among the fans, the film crew and the family - or even in Lettice's books themselves?

That no one is going to miss the victims makes it that much easier for the reader to sink into the story and just enjoy the fun – even if it does take the first third of the book to really get going. Each actress has her own interpretation of the character and her own secrets to hide – but this English summer weekend they will have to put aside their differences as the crimes at Aldermere turn anything but cosy. In attendance at Aldermere: the VIP fans, staying at house; the fan club president turned convention organiser; the team behind the newest movie adaptation of Davenport's books; the Davenport family themselves; and the three actresses famous for portraying Dahlia Lively through the decades. When fictional death turns into real bodies, can the three Dahlias find the answers to the murders among the fans, the film crew, the family - or even in Lettice's books themselves?I will admit that I pulled my crime solving hat on and rubbed my hands with glee as I read the invitation list and took in the plan of the house and grounds. The three famous actresses create a captivating crime fighting trio, their different ages adding to the inclusive experience. When fictional death turns into real bodies, can the three Dahlias find the answers to the murders among the fans, the film crew and the family – or even in Lettice’s books themselves?

The Three Dahlias is intended to take readers back to the genteel but thrilling mysteries of Dame Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers and Marjory Allingham but with a contemporary twist. For the final 100 pages I was curled up into the book desperately trying to reach the end and discover the truth. There have been more than enough Miss Marples, but that’s a role that an actor takes on much later in her career. Three rival actresses team up to solve a murder at the stately home of the author who made them famous - only to discover the solution lies in the stories themselves. There are several stately homes up and down the country that could have inspired the one in the book. Loved the characters, the plotting was very cleverly done ensuring that you were constantly in a spin about who was doing what and why, hooked right until the very end. Very happy to recommend this on to all cosy crime fans and to all fans of great classic crime reads. I applauded the ending, this series promises much and I look forward to A Very Lively Murder which appears next.
