About this deal

If you love Danielle Steel, a complicated family, or just a feel - good story, The Whittiers is for you! Well written, lacking constant repetition and rehashing of the story, three dimensional characters and a good plot and ending. The couple's passion remained after all their years of marriage, and they faithfully took their annual "wintermoon" ski trip holiday.

But with this year’s trip comes tragedy, and suddenly the Whittiers’ adult children find themselves reuniting in the family home without their parents for the first time ever. I was captured by the way they faced their individual situations while dealing with moving forward as a united family in the midst of anguish. This is a warm, touching novel that reveals the resilience and loving support of a family on the heels of a tragic loss. as the book opens, they are getting ready to travel on a skiing trip and tragedy that happens while they are skiing. Upon reading the first ten pages, I had not gotten hooked on the story or interested in the characters.Danielle Steel has been hailed as one of the world’s most popular authors, with nearly a billion copies of her novels sold. Preston and Connie Whittier have spent their lives in successful lucrative careers and raising their six children. She is also the author of His Bright Light, the story of her son Nick Traina’s life and death; A Gift of Hope, a memoir of her work with the homeless; and the children’s books Pretty Minnie in Paris and Pretty Minnie in Hollywood. As with many of Steel's novels, "The Whittiers" revolves around characters who are wealthy and live charming lives.

What begins as slow-burn quickly becomes an engrossing page-turner as Steel gently unfolds the story. Now, with a nearly empty nest, it’s easier than ever for the Whittiers to maintain their tradition of a solo romantic “wintermoon” ski trip. I appreciated this touching and emotional look at family dynamics, grief, and sibling bonds written in Steel's special style. I don't know what to say about this book except that it made me feel good and that all is NOT wrong with the world. The Whittier family, composed of two parents and six siblings ranging in ages from 42 to 21, have always been close, but when tragedy strikes these adult children are drawn even closer to provide emotional and physical support.Twins Caroline and Charlie work all hours on their growing fashion brand, but have no time to enjoy life. The oldest, Lyle, is reaching a breaking point in his marriage and must decide whether a divorce would be best for him and his two children.

Connie and Preston Whittier raised their six children in a once grand mansion in the centre of New York's Manhattan.

They are realistic, relatable, and likeable (with the exception of one that is severely emotionally damaged).
