About this deal

Juniper lives in a world where, fifty years before, a group took the fate of the world into their own hands, and the only humans to survive are the ones who live in enclosed spaces with barely any contact with nature. Juniper and Bear are such lovable characters and their journey to find their mother is moving but also fast paced.

The dystopian-style nature of this book makes for an exciting read filled with adventure, discovery and of course danger. But when that is taken away from him, his only hope is to pass a near-impossible exam and join the other students in Scholastic Parliament. Their parents live in a remote community in the north of the country and one day they plan to make the journey to join them. But when scientists discover the siblings are key to a merciless plan, their escape becomes more than that. Whilst, yes this is a story of an adventure through the animal inhabited wild, are there elements we should be paying more attention to?

This book has been on my radar for months but for a long time I didn’t think this was the right book for me right now. This book did not try and answer every question or tie up every lose end and it is the better for it as it allows you to think about the issues raised and how uncomfortable they actually are. Yet there are some in the cities who are looking hungrily at the resources available outside, if only they can find a way to make more people resistant to the disease. Because if we don’t change the way we live soon – very soon – it will be too late to save the planet. It's necessary and important, but also extremely well written, with wonderful characters and a gripping plot. Juniper and Bear however are immune to the disease as they once lived in the wild with their parents. More to the point, Juniper reckons the ReWilders – the group who spread the virus – did the right thing. At the centre is the conundrum of the Rewilders killing huge numbers of people to protect the Earth and this allows for the reader to consider what people are doing to this world and why it needs to change. There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors.

The winners of The Farshore Reading for Pleasure Teacher Awards 2023, highlighting the work schools are doing to encourage a love of reading, have. Where The World Turns Wild is a wonderful book which, whilst filled with tension from the opening pages, allows the reader to travel with Juniper and Bear as they try to escape the confines of the city. Most of the humans it seems readily accept this new way of life, and the story quite cleverly shows us how they are effectively indoctrinated and made to accept this as the new normal. Most of it we see from the child's perspective and obviously focuses on school life, but you can really see how control and influence happens in dystopian regimes at a very early age, which isn't something you actually see that often in this kind of fiction. The relationship between the siblings was just great, I loved how pure and protective they were of each other.Does the book contain anything that teachers would wish to know about before recommending in class (strong language, sensitive topics etc. Comparisons with more contemporary novels such as Fuzzy Mud, How to Bee, The Middler and Where the River Runs Gold could be made. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. Where The World Turns Wild follows siblings, Jupiter and Bear, two wild things in a cage that is Portia Steele's city.

The concept of nature being outlawed was mesmerising, and As I read on I really shared the main character’s heart ache and longing for them to be reunited with “the Wild”. This is an emotionally and vividly written story with a whole cast of touching, heart-felt characters such as the beautiful Ghost and brave Hester and Queenie and their gang.Bookwagon recommends Where the World Turns Wild to readers who seek inspiration, information, wonder and danger. It’s why they stand out at school, are bullied by Abbott and monitored so closely by Portia Steel’s crews. Stripes Publishing) At some point, Juniper knew that she and her younger brother, Bear, would have to journey to Where the World Turns Wild. Where the World Turns Wild is a journey between extremes of grey and green, propelled by a bold and timely concept, and written with sharp, intelligent prose. I think the book is great for fans of The Hunger Games and Divergent, and The City's dystopian look at a potential future world is frightening.
