About this deal

Yamazaki’s international footprint grew significantly with access to Beam’s distribution channels and became a key focus for the firm as the Japanese whisky boom really started to take hold. But few will admit that a bottle of an 18-year-old from these two distilleries would outshine another 18-year-old made in Scotland, while the delta in pricing is [now] half a grand. So many times, I find a review of a single malt aged in a sherry cask, which references the flavours of dried fruit, vanilla, and caramel.

Blessed with Japan’s rich four seasons, the diversity of this region’s temperature and humidity creates ideal conditions for whisky making. The rapid growth of the Japanese whisky industry in recent years has been nothing short of remarkable. The diversity of this region’s temperature and humidity creates ideal conditions for cask aging, known as the signature "Suntory Maturation". The Yamazaki is spicier, sweeter, but thinner, with flavours of caramel that were absent in the Hakushu. Released in Spring 2014, this is one of two Distiller's Reserve single malt whiskies from Suntory in Japan.

The area is famed for its misty climate and soft waters – so much so that Sen no Rikyu, master of the Japanese tea ceremony, set up his teahouse in Yamazaki. Despite being the first authentic Japanese whisky, the product was not well received in its home market due to a consumer taste for more subtle flavours than those in traditional Scotch whiskies. Has got a nice sweet alcohol smell with a light colour taste very strong but not to strong to drink with ice smooth sweet spice heat that really goes down nice and leaves you with a warm nice feeling. Comes in a nice looking bottle is very fruity I could taste a hint of cherry bursting through aswell as the sharp whisky taste .He oversaw the build of the Hakushu and Chita distilleries in the 1970s, paving the way for more experimental blends. Torii became the first master blender for Yamazaki, which started distilling in 1924 and released its first product – Suntory Whisky ‘Shirofuda’, or Suntory Whisky ‘White Label’ – in 1929. Available for purchase in Japan, Singapore, Philippines, and Taiwan, and for Global Travel Retail in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Australia. Yamazaki Distillery is where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers converge, providing a unique misty climate and one of Japan’s softest waters.

Another NAS bottling from Yamazaki shot to fame in 2014 when it was bestowed with a coveted accolade. Compared to the Yamazaki, the Hakushu is more floral and grassy, a “green” single malt with plenty of fruit. Inspired by traditional Scottish whisky, it is said that Torii selected the land of Yamazaki at the foot of Mt. After a period of renovations, the Suntory Yamazaki Distillery in Osaka prefecture is ready to welcome visitors again from November 1 – just in time to celebrate 100 years since Suntory's founder, Shinjiro Torii, began his whisky enterprise in Yamazaki. Completed in 1989, this development allowed Yamazaki to create a variety of malt whisky styles using multiple stills designs.

For international tourists, rest assured that both tours are available with English-speaking guides. I want to start off by mentioning that the Hakushu and the Yamazaki distilleries are both owned by the House of Suntory Whisky. With a range of options from Yamazaki DIstiller’s Reserve to 12, 18, and 25 years old, all of these prestigiouswhiskies contain carefully blended components aged in American, Spanish, and Japanese Mizunara oak.Inspired by traditional Scotch whisky he sought to craft a Japanese version of this great spirit that captured the climate and terrain of his native country, whilst drawing on Scottish know-how. But neat, although good, they’re a little bit coarser, with the Yamazaki in particular, a bit raw out of both. So today, I am tasting the Distiller’s Reserve of these whiskies, which are both younger, coloured whiskies bottled at precisely 43% ABV. With staff guidance, visit the whisky production area and enjoy tasting of the Yamazaki component whiskies. Established by Shinjiro Torii, founder of Japanese drinks group Suntory, Yamazaki became Japan’s first whisky distillery in 1923.
