About this deal

Although the effects of the flicker factor have been well documented ( Miall 1978), the effects of turning lights on and off at selected intervals have not. I think that these types of static electric fly zappers serve a different purpose than the racket-style zappers (the type I have reviewed previously) and have also tested extensively. It’s fairly simple, I use both types, but it depends on what types of flies and bugs you have got a problem with. The LED strips use less energy than conventional fly killer units, are low glare and the discreet design of the units reduces the visibility of caught flies.

To deal with bugs in a yard or on a patio, we prefer either bug repellent spray or spatial mosquito-control gear for your patio or yard. The grid at the front of the unit unlatches and swings down if you need to clean inside – except for the electric grid, which is self-cleaning. They also found a positive correlation between the intensity of UV light radiating directly into a room and the number of flies attracted to the light ( Thimijan and Pickens 1973). LED light-based glue traps have quickly become the most popular fly management option currently available to the food industry for all these reasons. Quality glueboards will last for over 3-month in the field and catch and hold flies, helping to keep your premises fly-free.Earlier we’ve discussed how a light source becomes a series of flickers in the eyes of flies instead of a constant beam of light. The bars around all sides of the unit let flies, mosquitoes and other flying bugs in from all sides as they’re drawn to the blue UV light. Flies from more distant parts of the house moved forward to fill the unoccupied space in 1–2 min, then all activity ceased.

Flies were collected for a 24-h period, after which dead flies were removed from collection trays and the treatments were reassigned to different trap pairs. After counting 10 measured numbers of dead flies from the test site in the graduated cylinder, it was determined that 1 ml was equivalent to 20 flies. Very effective in catching mosquitoes and other small flying creatures including: moths guava moth codling moth aphids sand flies. The company offers a wide range of environment-friendly fly lights, glueboards, and many other highly effective products.

This unfocused insect elimination is so extreme that, according to the authors of the University of Delaware study, “Even if targeted biting flies were effectively controlled by electric zappers, the resulting destruction of thousands of parasitoids, predators, aquatic insects, and other members of the nocturnally active fauna would be difficult to justify. While this may seem like a good place to have them, as flies will gravitate towards food and waste, electric fly killers can potentially cause some insects to ‘explode’ on impact (known as ‘blow out’).

As a result, it’s best not to rely on your slippers as a means of killing flies – there are much safer, more hygienic, and all-around better solutions out there! e., the sudden activation of the light trap, we hypothesized that a system for turning light traps on and off and creating illumination events at desired intervals might increase the fly catch when compared with traps in a constant state of illumination. Fruit flies have bright red eyes so if you catch one and look under a magnifying glass you will be able to tell. Pickens and Thimijan (1986) also stated that the total brightness, measured in Watts, produced by fluorescent tubes between 320 and 420 nm was most important for fly attraction. I’ve used this for just over a year now, so I thought it was time to give an update on what I think so far.All of the mosquito experts we spoke with and every relevant university extension office we could find unanimously condemned bug zappers. Personally, I go with a combination of a racket-style zapper for house flies such as blue bottles because they are not attracted by the blue UV light and then I use a static electric fly killer with some serious voltage to deal with mosquitos and other bugs that are drawn in by the blue UV light. Thankfully, honey bees are not attracted to light, nor do they roam around in the evenings, when bug zappers are most effective.
