For the 1983 model year, the engine of the CX500 Turbo was increased to 673 cc, together with an increase in power. Two problems with the 650 may have been it was not enough of a usable performance improvement on the 500 and it moved into the more competetive area of the market (650-750) and where the torque was perhaps not so much of a plus (through much of the '80s I ran a CX 500 and a KZ 650). The machine also comes with with two keys, tool kit, owner's manual and photocopied set-up instructions. Only just over 1,700 of these bikes were ever made, with around 1,200 of those making it to North America.
The CX is closer to the ground and feels like a smaller bike but with a ton of acceleration probably due to the lesser weight. Done 40000 miles and had 9 owners but not done much over the last few years other than been in Bristol to Yorks, Lancs then to Cardiff.The GL500 engine was similar to the CX500 engine, but used the more reliable transistorized ignition system, which meant the stator would contain only charging windings and thus would put out more power for operating the lights and other devices commonly added to touring motorcycles.
