About this deal

Gets a bad rap, but that's a bit underserved in my opinion. Sure, this cheap, cinnamon-y, lower-proof faux-whiskey is a totally childish slug, but it's admittedly tasty. And the one shot everyone in a big group is usually able to handle. Bars love Fireball shots too for their high margins. Getting drunk and helping pay your favorite bar's electric bill? I call that a win-win situation. Shots don’t need to be complicated. Rather than mixing or layering multiple ingredients, why not just use a single spirit. Whiskey shots are particularly popular and there are plenty of different whiskies to experiment with. The hot damn shot uses four ingredients – whiskey, rum, vodka, and orange juice. This makes it sound complex, but all you’re doing is shaking those ingredients together and pouring them into a glass. For many people, the name of this drink is reason enough to try it out. The shot combines Irish cream liqueur and sambuca. Sambuca does have an intense flavor, but the Irish cream liqueur helps to tone this down and create a drink that tastes surprisingly good. You may end up with some curdling of the Irish cream, much like in the brain hemorrhage shot. This makes the shot look even more impressive. Woo Woo

Regardless of the recipe, you end up with hot sauce, vodka, and some energy drink all at once. It’s certainly a shot to remember and is also a very manly drink. Blue Kamikaze In the same way that it works as a moment of visual reflection after all of the fast-paced sequences taking place in Joel’s (Jim Carrey) mind, this shot from the 2004 romantic film written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Michel Gondry is also the one that best encompasses the main conflict of the story: the falling romance between Joel and Clementine (Kate Winslet). Way underrated. The gorgeous green liqueur almost glows in the dim bar lights and is far more alcoholic than you'd imagine. "Hey, is that dude French?" people will wonder. And with all that sugar, it's far easier to down than you'd think. Still... kinda pricy.

This is one of the strongest shots that you can make, as it simply relies on two parts gin and one part Scotch whisky. The flavor is surprisingly good. The whisky provides a somewhat smoky tinge, but this will vary depending on the specific whisky that you use. I believe only people who have been contestants on Real World/Road Rules Challenge actually do these on a typical night out. Still, slurping something out of some reality star's dirty belly button? That's... cool.

In addition to the obvious aesthetic power displayed by the image, the shot also provides a perfect picture for the character portrayed by Pitt. A man whose legend has engulfed and erased his whole persona, making him only a shadow for those who surround him. The film is structured through little vignettes that provide insight into the realm of superstition, and while all of them are equally uncanny and intriguing, the image of the naked woman walking through the forest in the dark after being seduced by the Devil is still as eerie and ghostly as anything that has come out in theaters since the release of the film in 1922. Like ice sculptures for people who think carved swan centerpieces are just missing a little something!

Other types of shots are more complex, often using two or three different ingredients, if not more. The approach provides an interesting flavor profile. Many shots happen to look amazing in the glass too, especially if they’re layered. This was the shot "of the moment" when I was in college. I'm not even sure if the 'chläger is still being made. Probably because 95% of my generation died of gold-flake poisoning. We lost a lot of good men and women. Motor oil is a Jägermeister shot that also includes peppermint schnapps, coconut rum, and Goldschläger (which is a type of cinnamon schnapps). This combination of ingredients makes it similar to liquid cocaine, except that you’re using coconut rum rather than overproof rum. The shot itself is surprisingly simple. It starts with a layer of amaretto, which is then topped with coffee liqueur and finally with whipped cream. If “The Tree of Life” is a film built around the duality between nature and the divine, Jessica Chastain’s character is definitely the incarnation of the former, balancing Brad Pitt’s portrayal of the cold and angry father.

The schnapps can be replaced with crème de menthe if desired. Doing so decreases the alcohol content somewhat. Using crème de menthe can also make the peppermint flavor seem less pronounced, creating a mellower drink all around. This is sometimes called a green tea shot and other times a Jameson green tea instead. However, there’s no tea in the shot at all. The drink is simply named for its color instead. The creme de menthe adds a peppermint flavor to the drink. It also provides a green tinge, which is where the ‘zombie brain’ idea comes from. The cement mixer is an interesting shot. It is incredibly popular, yet it doesn’t actually taste all that good. The unappealing taste (and texture!) may be a reason for the shot’s popularity, as drinking it can be a challenge and it’s always fun to watch people’s reactions. Another version skips the grenadine and mixes cherry vodka, Liquid Ice energy drink, and hot sauce in the shot glass itself. This version isn’t quite as intense, but it’s easier to drink than the drop shot approach. However, there’s no doubt that the movie takes advantage of the high detail offered by its larger film gauge in shots like the one with Freddie Quell (Joaquin Phoenix) laying on the top of the boat in the beginning.
