About this deal

The entire sensor area is covered by 425 contrast-detection and 425 phase-detection points. Focus acquisition speed feels almost instantaneous at any of these points. Like its other APS-C mirrorless models, Sony’s A6400 has a small body and corner-mounted viewfinder Both cameras have been designed with a dust and moisture-resistant construction that can protect the camera from the elements. Additionally, both cameras have shutter mechanisms that can help protect the sensor from dust.

The tripod mount is placed far away from the combined battery/card door. So you can easily exchange batteries and memory cards even when the camera is on a tripod. It’s placed in line with the center of the lens mount, so creating seamless panoramas is easy. High-speed continuous shooting is available at up to approx. 11fps in “Hi+” continuous shooting mode and up to approx. 8fps in “Hi” continuous shooting mode. Maximum fps will depend on camera settings. That’s both a good and a bad thing for the A6400. It’s good in that its layout is going to be instantly familiar to anyone who’s used an A6000, A6300 or A6500, and it is a neat, compact, crisp-feeling design. Sony’s new AF system does a great job of focusing on your subjects eyes and not being distracted by anything else. Sony A6400 + E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS, 1/125sec at f/5.6, ISO 4000 Sublime autofocus Despite all its handling flaws, with some extensive menu fettling I was able to get the A6400 set up reasonably tolerably. But even then, I can’t say I found it to be an enjoyable camera to use. Mirrorless cameras have moved on a long way since this design was first conceived, and Sony has been left trailing by other manufacturers who have a considerably better grasp of photographers’ preferences and needs. If you want an APS-C camera at this price point that’s both highly sophisticated and a pleasure to shoot with, the Fujifilm X-T30 looks like a rather better bet. Sony Alpha 6400: Viewfinder and screen

Nonetheless, several factors such as lens quality and shooting conditions affect the continuous shooting performance. Interestingly, the larger buffer in the A6700 means it can sustain its burst shooting for longer. A great feature of mirrorless cameras is the electronic viewfinder (EVF). Both the Sony A6700 and A6400 have an EVF which can be an important feature for photographers and videographers. Paired with the right lenses, the A6400 is perhaps the best mid-range camera for shooting sports, action, and wildlife. Its autofocus system is fantastic. SDHC/SDXC memory card of Class 10 or higher is required for movie recording in XAVC S format. UHS-I (U3) SDHC/SDXC card is required for 100Mbps recording. Movie recording is possible for approximately 29 minutes. As usual, we found the Micro Four Thirds Live MOS sensor in the Olympus E-PL9 offered unusually good dynamic range across the ISO range. The CMOS sensor (not an X-Trans type) in the X-T100 came second and the A6400 and EOS M50 were pretty much level in third place. Sony A6400 review: Verdict

This leaves the A6400 mildly disappointing. It’s a small camera with few external controls that hasn’t really developed physically since the A6000 and relies too heavily on its digital interface. The EVF and small rear screen seem especially weak by today’s standards. Overall, the camera is highly customizable. The electronic viewfinder is great—it’s large and responsive. Color and contrast are great right out of the box.

When it was launched, the Sony A6400 didn't have too many direct vlogging rivals. That's all changed, with cameras like the Canon EOS M6 Mark II, Fujifilm X-S10, Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III and Panasonic Lumix G9, many of which can boast vari-angle not just tilting screens, and some of which have in-body stabilization. Lenses – The lens has dust inside that may affect images. The rubber zoom/focus ring is coming away from the barrel of the lens. Off, On, Automatic, Fill-in, Slow Sync, Rear Curtain Sync, Red Eye Reduction, High Speed Sync (HSS) The A6400 is capable of recording up to 29 minutes of 4K video in a single shot. The A6700 significantly improves this with its advanced heat management system, enabling longer recording times. Sony’s improved heat management in the A6700 enables extended recording times, making it a more reliable choice for extended recording sessions. There are options in the camera to change the color calibration to a degree. This won’t replace the versatility you have with RAW processing software, but it’s better than nothing.
