After reading this story, we will be looking at the character traits that The Good Egg has at the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Here is an anchor chart that we will be using to help guide us. The Good Egg is a positive role model for his willingness to help others, his attempt to remedy bad behavior of those around him, and mostly for his ability to step away from his comfort zone to prioritize his own well-being. He's courageous, determined to persevere on journey of self-discovery. He's also eager to forgive and learns to find positive in others and his situation. The message of putting yourself before others is not what I want to teach my kids. The extreme bad behavior of the other eggs is unrealistic, and the author has the Good Egg deal with that behavior by going on a solo journey of “self care,” including going to a spa and “breathing in and out.” That type of “self care” doesn’t work in real life, so why teach it to children, furthering the selfish “world-revolves-around-me” mentality of youth today.
