I had to go back to Mario Party 2 with Speed Hockey and Mario Party 7's Ice Moves to find something actually resembling air hockey. You place 3 of the character tabs (or figures from the Link System games) in the slots and you try to use your paddle and pucks to knock them over. Going by Wikipedia, Adachi and Shimamura was released in Japan on March 10, 2013 (the year matches what is written in the copyright section of my library's copy), so the game in question will have to have come out before then. It does require batteries to be installed, and not the usual AA or AAA that you will have loads of lying around the house (or that you borrow from remote controls) but two of the larger and fatter C size batteries.
